Emerson Hubbard FFA Chapter Reporter
The Emerson Hubbard FFA Chapter has begun another busy school year. A “Welcome Back” picnic was held for old and new faces.  They enjoyed good food, welcomed new members, and got right down to business! The first community service project was repairing and painting benches in town. The benches are located throughout the city streets; parked near libraries, restaurants and local businesses. They are often used during parades, by coffee drinkers, and passersby.

The Emerson Hubbard and Pender FFA Chapters teamed up to hold a Farm Safety Day on September 12th. About 165 elementary students, grades 3-6 from Emerson Hubbard, Pender, Wakefield, Waterloo and Walthill participated. Sessions included, horse and dog safety, boating and camping safety, and proper operation of an ATV and tractor.

The sun protection session had a fun relay to see who could put on their protective clothing fastest.  Another session included “What’s in your garage” and bicycle safety. They focused on the everyday dangers at home, which anyone could encounter. The day not only provided an opportunity to learn about safety, but also enabled students to meet new people. We look forward to seeing everyone next year!
Our chapter also enjoyed a busy summer.  For the first time officers attended COLT, Chapter Officer Leadership Training, to learn how to properly conduct a meeting and how to fulfill specific officer duties. President, Eddie Rohde; Vice President, Travis Albrecht; Treasurer, Zack McLaughlin; Reporter, Adrienne White and Sentinel, Dillion Martin, got to know the national officer, collaborated on ideas for the chapters Program of Activities, and learned about how to be successful and productive chapter officers.
Several members showed at the county fair in South Sioux City; while most were showing in 4-H this year, they hope to have a larger showing for FFA in the years to come. Emerson’s town festival, Western Days, was a great opportunity for the FFA Chapter to get out into the community. Members helped set up and run the tractor games, and the chapter advisor, Mrs. Ryun, even sat in the dunk tank.
The year to come is only going to be more active and fun! The chaper is looking forward to attending and competing in events throughout the year: IMPACT, land evaluation, leadership skills events, fruit sales, career development events, proficiencies, farmer appreciation breakfast, Million Can Challenge food drive, and much more.
